Exactly how far to go back, in order to find the beginning
of a new ministry, is sometimes hard to do. One event leads to another over a long period of time,
making the exact time of the birth, difficult to pinpoint.
In the suburbs of Bombay a special couple are doing an amazing and unique work. They are ministering to some of the thousands of slum/street dwellers. Asha, the wife has set up some classes and feeding programs for homeless children; while John, the husband teaches in a number of classes. What makes the whole thing even more remarkable is that this couple has next to nothing themselves! Their home is tiny, they have no transport and no guaranteed income yet despite that, they wash, feed and witness to these poor people daily. They are totally cast upon God. Their ministry has grown steadily since 1992, and recently they reached a major milestone .
It was in the first week of January of 1992, they went to Bombay. Bombay is known as the Gateway of India. And it is indeed the gateway to the whole nation. Bombay with a population of over 27 million by next year will be the second largest city in the world.

More than 100,000 street children are wandering/begging for a piece of bread to feed their hungry stomach, half a million trash pickers who just live by what they get from the trash can or garbage dumping, these are heart breaking sight in this great City.
Bombay – is a city of great challenge to all, such as traders, business establishments, different sort of organizations (spiritual, social…etc…). Yes it is a great challenge to the disciples of our Master too.

There they rented a small room in Kandivli East, in the Western Suburbs of that City, and began reaching out right away, to the slum dwellers and homeless children in the streets. They continued to do this on a day-by-day basis, using whatever resources were available to them, for 13 years. The Lord led John and Asha to these most vulnerable people in the city. Willingly they went to reach out these people for the Lord. They had no complaint for anything to anybody.
"I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed,
you have been concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it."
"I am not saying this because I am in need,
for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances."
"I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.
I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation,
whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want."
" I can do everything through him who gives me strength." ( Phil 4:10-13 NIV )
These verses inspired them in their day-to-day life.
Sitting on the roadside under some shade, some times under the street light John & Asha was
sharing the good news to these people especially to children in many locations.
